Revolution Team News
More progress for the Revolution. After a slow start to the season the Revolution has started to put a full game together. Our earlier performances saw us either struggle for a half and then come back with a better half or loose our concentration at the end of the game. However the last two weekends have been a different story. For Both our games last Sunday and our most recent game this past Saturday we have drawn 2-2 and 1-1. What is more significant than the fact that we did not lose or even that we have finally been able to put some goals away is that in both our ties we came form behind to draw even with our opponents. It takes a team with character and a belief in itself to come from behind. On the technical side we have been working on possession and playing off the ball. We will never be able to score if we can’t posses the ball for more then a couple passes. In our past 2 games we have possessed well and moved off the ball to create passing options. Also in regards to our offensive technical ability we have been able to play more through balls diagonally across the field which are easier for our forwards and midfielders to run onto as wells as being more difficult to defend. Finally on the defensive side our back 4 has really started to move well together and defend as a unit. We even stated to see a little of our out side backs push forward to support offensively and over load a side. We will continue to work on possession and playing to feet. Specifically we want to be able to swing the ball around the back through the defense and through the middle of the field to quickly find space on the opposite side of the field. Also the 2 glaring problems with our past game was posting in front of our opponents during goal kicks and playing through the ball. Posting up for goal kicks is as simple as standing in front of your defender to receive the ball. Playing through the ball is more a lack of commitment to a 50/50 ball. If we are going to a lose ball then we can’t slow down if there is an opponent also trying to collect that ball. We need to run all the way through the play and recover after we have missed it and not stop before we reach the 50/50 ball assuming the other team has it. Remember, the ball belongs to you and your team and every now and then it happens to be next to your opponent! We have a lot of work to do especially with the limited numbers we have. But it is truly remarkable how fan these girls have come in such a short time. Go Rev! Andy
