Phoenix News

The Phoenix Played with heart on Saturday. The girls knew this would prove to be a tough game. We were missing a couple of key players but we were confident we could still pull off a win. We lost our ability to sub when one of our girls left the field due to an injury. Lucky for us she was only out for about twenty minutes. This was a game that was hard fought but we were unable to keep the Alliance away from our goal. Their first goal came in the first half. The Phoenix stepped it up as they have done all season long but lost steam in ther second half when the Alliance earned their second goal. Several girls made extra efforts in this game to keep it close. We sent crosses through their 18 yard box but could not get behind them to finish. We earned our opportunities but couldn't get the ball in the goal.

Final 0-2

Sunday, the Phoenix showed up ready and willing to perform. They started the game with a ton of possession and lots of shots. The Phoenix defense only allowed the Sting a couple of looks at our goal during the first half. We netted our first early with a nice siries of passes and a great shot. We continued to pressure and earned our second and third goals with some combination plays that put the Phoenix girls in scoring positions. The Phoenix played a great game and had fun doing so. We saw a great goal when one of our outside backs got forward into the attack and finished a ball that found her on top of the 18 with style. We had two defenders get goals in this game and as I said before, "I love it when the defense scores". The Girls, once more, made me proud to be their coach.

Final 6-0 Phoenix

I want to thank every player that has played for me over the last two wonderful years with the Phoenix. I have truly enjoyed my time with the Girls. They have all showed that they have what it takes to be a player. They have all improved dramaticly in their technical ability and in their maturity as players. They think soccer and have become a strong team. I will be passing the Phoenix on to their new coach with confidence knowing that the girls on this team will continue to improve and will continue to make their coach proud. I will be keeping a close eye on the Phoenix. I have grown to care about the girls and their success. They are amazing young ladies who can go as far as they want to in this sport as long as they continue to work like they have for me. I really appreciate everything the parents have done to get the girls to practice, games and help the coach out when he has car trouble. This has been a very rewarding experience that I will not forget. Thank You for every memory.
