Magic News
Magic went to Blue Mountain Exchange
In the Sundag game against Arsenal we did a much better job penetrating and finding the attacking third. We finished more opportunities with shots on goal and scored two nice goals. At times we were not as focused in the back and gave up some counter attacks but for the most part we did a good job far away from home.
After another week of practice LOSC Extreme visited Eugene and demonstrated how efficient the current state cup winner can be. While Magic possessed the ball and created opportunities, LOSC was always dangerous with counterattacks. One of those attacks was successful and Magic went into halftime 1-0 down. In the second half, the Magic pressed even more and created lots of opportunities but it took corner Nr. 10 to finally create the tieing goal. Coach Jurgen was extremely proud of the girls finally scoring off a corner and the goalscorer was a defender. A real breakthrough for our team and we hope to see more goals from defenders. Unfortunately, we gave up a free kick 2 minutes before the end which LOSC converted into the winning goal for the day.
Last weekend, the Magic travelled to Pasco, WA to play in the Blue Mountain Exchange. Sunshine and grassfields greeted us on those two days. In the three group games, the Magic stayed undefeated and scored an impressive 13 goals. It was good to see the girls combine and present a nice attacking minded team. Several goals were played out very nicely and coach Jurgen was very happy. In our last game, we had the THUSC Sodium players on the sideline since they needed us to help them get in the final. The Magic did its part and won in a shutout which was needed to get a very common match established: Sodium vs Magic in the final. The final was hard fought and the Sodium got the better first half. Being first to the ball and pressing the Magic was enough to keep us off our game. Sahalie did a great job in the first half to keep us in the game. In the second half, the Magic turned the game around and the Sodium team saw themselves mainly defending. The overtime periods also were pretty even for both teams and so the teams lined up for penalty kicks. Unfortunately, we did lose in kicks but despite the disappointment, the girls came away with a good experience in this tournament. They learned more about themselves as players and a team and we are ready to finish the spring league and enter the state cup in April.
Best from coach Jurgen
