EMFC High School Program
Philosophy
Eugene Metro FC seeks to provide an organized, meaningful, and exciting soccer experience for each of our high school age players and teams. We realize that each team will have different goals and means to reach those goals. For some players and teams, more significant out-of-state competition and traveling will be desired. For others, individual and team goals may be to improve individual technical skills and to be competitive in Oregon. The EMFC Director of Coaching will work with the Head Coaches to develop an appropriate season plan for each team.
EMFC teams will seek to compete at both a state and regional level. When appropriate and desired, Eugene Metro FC will assist and support each player as he/she begins to identify and potentially select possible college soccer programs. Eugene Metro FC supports strong academic achievement for high school players, including those students seeking future college-level soccer opportunities.
Players are expected to have strong technical skills previously covered in youth level soccer. U-15 through U-19 coaches will evaluate these technical skills immediately upon forming teams and determine an adequate training schedule to master all technical skills appropriate for competitive high school level soccer players.
All U-15 through U-19 players will undergo a series of fitness tests at the beginning of each season. These results will be recorded, and specific interventions and activities will be selected and implemented to address any deficiencies. Players will be evaluated again once in mid-season and near the completion of the season.
The following tactics will be covered during each full season for our U-15 through U-19 teams: pressing, speed of play, low and high pressure defending, counter attacking, zonal defending, off-sides tactics for attacking and defending, and changing the point of attack.
Each Eugene Metro FC U-15 to U-19 team will have significantly more training sessions devoted to specific technical/tactical functional training for keepers, defenders, midfielders, and strikers.
Program Details
High School club tryouts for U15 to U18/19 teams are conducted in August with a potential supplementary November tryout if necessary. After players are offered a spot on a team and have accepted it, a team meeting will be organized to discuss the details of the team?s specific practice and game program. At this time a $200.00 non-refundable down payment will be due. The team will at this point also discuss a potential tournament schedule. Typically, High School teams are encouraged to enter tournaments that attract college coaches and offer highly competitive environments. EMFC wants to take High School teams to at least one of these tournaments. Some of these tournaments are in the region of Oregon and Washington, while others are in Southern California, Arizona, or Nevada. Over the summer all High School teams will enter at least two high level tournaments in Oregon and Washington. However, teams together with their coach might select different or additional tournaments.
Training for HS teams will begin in late November/early Devember. At this time all players will undergo a fitness test and will be given a conditioning plan based on the outcome of this test. Players will be expected to complete the conditioning plan before scheduled practices begin in early January.
In early January High School teams will practice three times per week. Once the OYSA Winter season begins at the end of January, teams will practice twice a week. The OYSA Winter season has 10 games; five of them will be played at home and five are played away. In early April, teams start to compete in the OYSA state cup. During the preliminary round, teams play 3-5 games depending on the number of teams entered in the competition. The two leading teams in each bracket move on to quarterfinals which are single elimination games. The OYSA State Cup final is usually in the beginning of May. After their last state cup game, High School teams will take some time off. Teams resume with a summer practice program that is designed around the summer tournaments and will also be a preparation for their respective high school programs which typically start in mid to late August.

ODP Program
All our players are encouraged to visit the OYSA website and inform themselves about the ODP program. EMFC players who want to reach for higher goals should consider this excellent opportunity to play and compete with the best in Oregon. Contact your coaches if you have questions about this program. If enough players want to participate in the tryout process of ODP, EMFC will provide a preparation program for these players.
Off-Season
All players on our teams will receive a detailed annual evaluation from their coaches to identify areas of improvement. All players are encouraged to participate in as many training programs offered in the off-season to either maintain their skills or improve specific areas. All players are encouraged to join any of the pickup games or f&250;tsal games in the off-season. Our high school players will also receive specific age appropriate conditioning and strengthening plans throughout the year to maintain or improve endurance, agility, speed, and strength.

Parent and Player Expectations
Conduct -Eugene Metro FC players and parents will conduct themselves in a positive and respectful manner at all times when representing this club. This includes comments and actions towards teammates, opponents, referees, and coaches.
Effort -EMFC players will exert maximum effort at every training session and match. If you aren?t willing to put in the effort, you shouldn?t be playing at this level.
Attendance -Players are expected to attend and be on time to all scheduled training sessions and matches. If a player must be absent, he/she (not the parent!) must call the coach at least the day before and let him know of the upcoming absence. If a player must miss practice due to illness, the player must call the coach and at least leave a message before the commencement of practice. It is unacceptable to just not show up!
Practice Habits -EMFC players are expected to arrive at practice and immediately start juggling a ball or passing with a teammate. Be focused and prepared to start practice on time! Players must wear their practice kits to every session.
Game Day -Players are expected to arrive fully dressed and ready to play one hour before away games and 45 minutes before home games.
Academics -EMFC players are expected to maintain good academic standing and stay up to date on assignments. If a player is falling behind in their studies, please contact your coach. We are prepared to set up a monitoring program with your son/daughter?s teachers if the need is there.
Nutrition -Successful soccer players prepare themselves for competition more than just the hour before a training session or game. Players should eat a healthy meal with plenty of carbohydrates (non-fried foods) the evening before a match. Stay away from sugar treats as well! Players should eat a healthy meal on game day at least two hours before kickoff to avoid cramps. Again, avoid fried foods and sugar. Energy bars or other healthy light snacks are acceptable. Players also need to start hydrating 24 hours before a match. This means lots of water and/or sports drinks. No soda on game day!
Accountability -EMFC believes that a good student athlete has more than good athletic skills. EMFC players are expected to be responsible citizens in our community and strive to maintain a positive reputation for the club. The use of drugs and alcohol is strictly forbidden and may result in dismissal from the team and a possible ban from the club.
